Carlsbad cattlemen lawyers and business men left for home after Merchants Sons versus Williams and Christmas did not reach Judge Pope. The renewed case sought dissolution of an injunction barring unclean cattle from Merchant and Sons range. A possible compromise was discussed, with Lige and John Merchant, Geo Pendleton, Holly Benson, C N Jones, Judge J M Dye, Judge C R Brice, Will ONeill, H Christmas and Claud McGehee among those returning.
Judge Win H. Pope leaves this morning for Santa Fe to attend the inauguration of Governor Mills next Tuesday and to participate in Supreme Court ceremonies. He will be sworn in as Chief Justice during the events.

Kirksville Missouri February 26 Mrs Alma Proctor Vaughn arrested on a murder warrant for her husband Professor John T Vaughn. She was later released on twenty five thousand dollar bonds. It is charged he died of strychnine poisoning. Family physician Dr J R Hull was arrested on a similar charge. The case is described as highly sensational in state history. The Mendelssohn wedding march played after his death was noted by the grand jury.

An inquiry followed Prof. Vaughn's death in convulsions though investigators found no sign of foul play. Soon after the funeral his widow Mrs. Vaughn played music at the home of Mrs. John R. Kirk, a guest, arousing suspicions Mrs. Kirk relayed these concerns to her husband prompting the investigation.
A Valparaiso dispatch reports William J. Bryan told friends he will not seek the presidential nomination. He stated he neither desired nor intended to be a candidate again, signaling no bid in the next race.
New York Feb 26 A motion to cancel the National Packing Company charter will be filed next week by Hudson County prosecutor Garvin. He said capiases may be issued if indicted men do not appear voluntarily, with sheriffs to pursue fugitives. Garvin called the Chicago reaction a joke but warned the matter is serious and promised further evidence for the grand jury.
Washington Feb 26 Gifford Pinchot on the witness stand in the Ballinger Pinchot inquiry charges Secretary Ballinger with falsehood and disloyalty to President Taft and calls for his dismissal from the service. He says Ballinger reversed a conservation policy and restored water sites to entry, while calling into question Ballinger's explanations to the president as false. Pinchot endorses Glavis as a faithful public servant and cites documentary evidence against Ballinger’s Cumberland coal cases.

Guthrie Oklahoma February United States Senator Bailey from Texas is employed by the State of Oklahoma to help prosecute the state's appeal in the bank guaranty case before the Supreme Court and in cases where Governor Haskell and other officials are barred from interfering with interstate liquor shipments. He may also assist in the two cent fare cases to be argued in St Louis this spring.

Virsylvia New Mexico February 22 The sudden weather shift this past week brought heavy losses to sheep herders after a cold December and milder January and February. A light rain turned to drifting snow by morning and more sheep were found affected by the storm.
A brutal cold wave left a flock decimated as sheep were found dead in deep snow drifts. One family reported 21 below while another noted 6 below. Two days later temperatures rose to 38 degrees above, ending the spell.
In Santa Fe last night a banquet at Nathans Jaffa and wife’s home honored outgoing Governor George Curry. Attended by the governor with his administration, the event featured a diamond ring presentation from ex-Governor and Territorial Treasurer M. A. Otero. The host gave a warm introduction and tribute to the guest of honor.

In Bethlehem Pennsylvania rioting by foreigners erupted near Bethlehem Steel with police clashing after a long strike begun February 4. Two foreigners were shot and several beaten as state police restored order while the plant shut down for security.
