Girl Scout Troops Highlight Award Winning Spellers
Deb orah Clark of Troop 17 won top honors in the Chaves County School Speech Contest. Net tie Crawford, also of Troop 17, placed first in spelling and competed in the state contest in El Paso. Troop 58 tours Carlsbad Caverns. Troop 65 had a Flyup at Pecos School with about 30 attendees. Troop 33 from WAFB Elementary toured Holsum Bakery. Troop 52 at Trinity Methodist Church held a Court of Awards with stars and badges awarded to a long list of girls. Troop 76 from Missouri Avenue School took field trips to Glovers Packing Co and South Springs Dairy to see mechanical milkers.

Twenty members and guests toured gardens including the Jordans Berry Bailey Burnworth Grantham and Municipal Rose Garden. The group will meet June 19 at Mrs Claude Meadows home with workshop on Flower Arrangement Principles.

Artesia Mrs. Lucille Ward Metzger 505 West Richardson died at 4 45 Friday morning at Artesia General Hospital. Born Elk September 25 1904 she moved to Artesia from Elk in 1907. An interior decorator she was a member of the First Methodist Church and Altrusa. Survivors include her mother Kate Ward two sisters and one brother J S Ward of Artesia. Funeral Monday at 10 am from First Methodist Church with Rev Joe Emanuel officiating burial in Woodbine Cemetery.
