GSA May Seek Suit Over Roswell Drainage Dispute

A GSA spokesman said the agency may sue Roswell to settle who must fix drainage at Roswell Industrial Air Center. Roswell officials want to buy 37 RIAC units to end the dispute but rejected a $275,000 GSA offer as overpriced.

Ed Mahr touts Villa Solano center benefits near Roswell

State Corrections Secretary Edwin T. Mahr says the Villa Solano site 20 miles south of Roswell will bring economic and social gains if funding passes. The bill allocates $990,885 for facility purchase and operations, with first inmates arriving around March 1 and 35 jobs created.

Senate mulls college plan as three options surface

Senate extends talks on drug controversy

In a lengthy secret session the Senate reviewed Panamanian officials and Omar Torrijos in drug trafficking allegations tied to the Panama Canal treaty debate. Sen. Dole called the session useful while Sen. McGovern dismissed it as wasteful. The intelligence panel cited reports alleging Torrijos and brother Moises profited and knew officials were involved.

Mealie pushes for city charter and council seat

Dr. Carl A. Mealie seeks a City Council seat in the March 7 election on the Common Sense Ticket with Kenneth J. Cox. He campaigns for a city charter with checks on mayor and council and cites a 24hour emergency system at St Marys Hospital and paramedics in state training.
