In Pueblo Colorado a masked kidnapper Eugene C. Hurst 28 was captured after a 150 minute struggle on a prairie. Nancy Jackson 27 mother of three escaped unharmed while her husband Robert A. Jackson 28 was wounded. Fortino and Capt Mayber helped subdue Hurst after a pistol discharged.

The State Parole Board granted parole to four inmates and reviewed five others. Tomas Bermudez of Lea County received three to five years for involuntary manslaughter auto. Teacher Must Live With Dud Bomb
In Tokyo, a schoolteacher, Tatsuhiko Ojiro, found an unexploded World War II bomb under a rose bush in his yard and was told it will remain there for a couple of months. Bomb disposal officials cited depleted funds after digging up 7,000 bombs and shells in 10 months and said they would remove the device when new funds begin the next fiscal year on April 1. Police say carbon monoxide poisoning is the likely cause as a motorist first noted the vehicle and later found no response.
