Zarb defends Ford energy plan amid oil price rise

Federal Energy Administrator Zarb told the House subcommittee that sky high petroleum prices cut US consumption by at least one million barrels daily and that the Ford program would cut further use by about another million barrels per day. He warned blocking the plan risks another Middle East embargo and noted tariff effects on gasoline prices. He contrasted broader tax approach with gasoline only hikes. Bentsen enters 1976 Democratic presidential race

Secret vote would slash crime commission funding

In Santa Fe the House Appropriations Committee reportedly voted 9-7 to limit the Governor’s Organized Crime Prevention Commission to one dollar annually, risking the unit’s existence. Chairman Rep William O'Donnell declined to comment further as the panel planned to revisit funding Tuesday.

Kraft family Christmas delayed for Roswell visit

Santa Fe observers forecast a near 435 million to 435 million plus surplus in the general fund as lawmakers draft the General Appropriations Act ahead of the 60 day session.
