The Alameda Green House at Alameda Street and South Lea Avenue in Roswell has become a premier local attraction after a major expansion. Manager F. O. Snyder Texas February 16 Farmers of the region held a meeting to organize a branch of the Farmers' Cotton Growers union. The new body seeks to admit only farmers and plans local chapters statewide with aim to extend influence and membership across the South.
Webb City Missouri February 16 Dr S H Clark of the University of Chicago is the principal speaker at the teachers convention held at the First Presbyterian church with several hundred teachers in attendance.
Mr and Mrs C E Mason hosted a small congenial gathering at their North Richardson avenue home in Roswell for Mrs Mason's cousin Miss Dad S Shamliffer of Council Grove. Guests included Mr and Mrs Percy Evans and Captains Hester McClure Loring and Comer. Five Hundred was the evening's main game followed by punch marguerites and a buffet luncheon.
Special to The Record from Carlsbad reports the residence of J. B. Owens Eddy county clerk burned this morning. The blaze started at 9 30 from an unknown cause and the building was a total loss despite salvage efforts.
A new plant is nearing completion and will begin operations in April. The project phase indicates full readiness by spring with expected productivity.
Local Roswell investors back a thirty ton Roswell Gas and Ice Co plant with W. D. Sweet as head. The firm plans April startup delivering cheap pure ice and extending gas mains across the city to serve about one hundred current customers. In Butte Montana on February 16, the Butte Typographical Union rejected publishers demands, risking a paper standstill. In Wallace Idaho, Steve Adams faces a full jury over the murder of Fred Tyler, with circumstantial evidence and an alleged confession under dispute, while defense challenges the admissibility of witnesses and method.

Judge G A Richardson holds stock and subscribers are asked to call at his office.
Five rail roads in southern Nebraska use the Burlington line from Omaha to Lincoln due to Platte river floods. Union Pacific is tied up 200 miles west of Omaha while Missouri Pacific Rock Island Northwestern Burlington and Union Pacific share the single track. No freight moves and Omaha yards show heavy congestion.
Frederick A. Holbrook, chair of a manufacturers association accused of forming a trust to fix school furniture prices, was arrested on federal warrant. He allegedly conspired with Ezra Stafford of Stafford Manufacturing Co. The Department of Justice probe into school and church furniture prices has run for months.
New York February 14 funeral service held for Mrs Joseph Bolton wife of a juror. Bolton plans to return to jury Monday as two new witnesses Dr Francis L Patton former Princeton president and Dr Frank P McGuire Tombs physician are expected to testify on the prisoner's sanity at the time of the tragedy.
W P Anderson brought in three prominent sheep breeders from Colorado to Laramie county, Jesse Harris, Lewis Kern and Wm Dunham. They arrived from the South and will stay awhile to see the country and rest. Dunham is noted for irrigation work and large watering plants in Colorado.
Kipling’s Candy Store announces higher prices for shelled nuts due to cost increases. The notice states shelled nuts will be sold at an advanced price from now on. The Woolard books of Toasts with silk and leather bindings are offered at 50c and 1.00 at Ingersoll’s Book Store.
The Philharmonic band will perform on Main Street at 7 30 this evening in their first regular appearance since being led by Prof. Croft. All are invited to attend and hear the music.
Rev. R. W. Lewis of Cumberland City returned from a two week revival at Skintook I T. He says the meeting was successful with 50 professions of conversion.
Sheriff Joe Lang of Portales and Deputy Wm Tipton of Texico arrived by auto this morning returning from Santa Fe where they delivered A. M. Doss Boykin to serve a twelve year term for killing his brother in law Henry Stoltz.
R. T. Burge left Friday for Beaumont Texas where he will join his wife on a trip to Kentucky and New York. They expect to return in about three weeks. In Kentucky he will attend a sale of jacks and hopes to bring some fine ones to his stock farm east of town.
