Iran's Foreign Minister Sadegh Ghotbzadeh said the 50 U S hostages in Tehran will be released only if all parties accept an international commission's findings on the deposed shah's regime. He noted the panel should be independent and formed soon, with no automatic release after findings. The White House cautioned the release remains weeks away.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Wagner board a plane to Albuquerque for the regional Family Farmer contest after being nominated by the Roswell Jaycees. They captured the Chaves County title, earning entry to the regional competition.

Ted Hansen of Polly Ann Ice Cream offers 275 flavors including tomato, celery, and carrot ice cream. The shop, 14 years old, lets customers taste before buying and draws both kids and adults with unusual options and names like American Beauty and Impeachment inspired by Watergate.
Roswell purchasing agent Stanely L. Holmans plans to retire February 29 but seeks a council seat from Ward 4 to continue helping balance the city budget. He cites budget constraints, calls for wage increases, and supports extending Roswell's current form of government while highlighting city improvements and road projects.
