Lunches Served To Army Fliers At Roswell Airport

The Roswell chamber of commerce arranged lunches for army flight personnel arriving by air today. J C Barnett learned of the plan at nine o clock and sandwiches and hot coffee were prepared at the airport. Claude Simpson noted the effort is to boost the Roswell air route and aviation interest continues with the aeronautics committee seeking airline and aviator participation.

Absentee Vote Law Declared Invalid in Sheriff Contest

In an opinion by Judge Joseph L. Dailey, section four, chapter 127 of the 1933 session laws governing absentee ballots is ruled unconstitutional. The decision declares Thompson elected over A. J. Scheir in Harding county sheriff race. The ruling cites constitutional provisions on election judges and precinct as voting unit. Sixty one absentee ballots for Scheir are void, but the result remains unchanged. Continued on Page Eight.

Jurors vote six ballots to convict Hauptmann

A source close to the jurors says six ballots were cast before Hauptmann was agreed for execution by electric chair. Cravatt favored mercy on five ballots, with two women joining. the panel finally stood 11 to 1 for conviction on the sixth ballot.

Stockmen Meet Here Next Month in New Mexico

Roswell hosts the annual conventions of the New Mexico Cattle Growers and Wool Growers associations. Meetings run March 25 to 27 with a joint session on March 26. The Chamber of Commerce plans entertainment including a Country Club tea and a dance, plus a barbecue for delegates. The New Mexico Military Institute cadet corps will parade for visitors. Governor Clyde Tingley is invited to attend. March 27 features the Hereford breeders show and calf sale tied to 4-H projects.

Cotton Committees Form for Lower Valley in 1935

The Lower Valley cotton committee for southern Chaves county includes J. R. Spence Lake Arthur Harry Cowan Hagerman and R. G. Durand Dexter. These men were elected at cotton grower meetings in their communities this week. Only landlords and managing share tenants who signed 1935 cotton reduction contracts last spring may vote. A Roswell round committee was to be elected this afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce. The three member group will join the county committee to oversee 1935 contract eligibility and supervise contract formation.

Light Snow and Rain Across Central New Mexico

Light snow and rain brought about .03 inch of precipitation to Albuquerque last night in a locally confined storm. The system extended from Santa Fe where about two inches fell to likely Socorro. This morning Las Vegas Ra ton Roswell reported clear conditions.

Pepperday Reveals G O P Gift Ties in New Mexico

In Santa Fe, Feb 14, AP, T M Pepperday publisher of the Albuquerque Morning Journal, admitted being the unnamed donor of $2000 to the Republican campaign fund as House investigators probe campaign financing. Pepperday said he followed the attorney for the New Mexico Construction Company, denied hidden motives, and acknowledged partisan support for Senator Cutting while detailing interactions with Chavez counsel.

Stockmen Seek Greater U S Grazing Lands

Denver Feb 14 AP Stock men of the west urged lawmakers to expand grazing districts under the Taylor act. They want the 80 million acres set aside for livestock to include all usable public domain, with estimates reaching 120 million acres. Interior Department and F R Carpenter, director of grazing, were noted in the discussion.
