Superintendent J M Reid of Chaves county schools received a teacher suggestion for Elk City after a romance ended in a marriage. Miss Mattie Boon was recommended, but the Elk City school gained a vacancy when director T C Tillotson married teacher Ollie Walker last Sunday.

A man named William Wadorf Jackson Jr of Lowell Mass called at Douglas Robinson's home seeking to see President Roosevelt during his New York visit. He was told the President had not risen and to call again. no arrest was made.

Fire partly destroyed the Brevoort House in Chicago early today causing about 100000 dollars in damage and forcing 159 guests to flee. Three firemen were injured, one severely, while none of the guests suffered harm.
J. E. Cady and M. O. Becker of Berrien Center Michigan plan a two story hotel at Lake Arthur. Plans accepted and contract let. Construction to start soon. Becker visited Roswell for work while partner returned to Michigan with families.
Fire in Mobile Alabama destroys the Battle House and the Commercial House with several adjoining buildings. The total loss is reported at 460000 dollars with 400000 dollars attributed to the Battle House. The fire was brought under control today.
