New Mexico Faces Federal Road Funds Shortfall

The Federal Highway Administration says New Mexico has $97.7 million in available federal highway money but lacks the required 10 percent matching funds for interstates and 30 percent for primary and secondary roads. NM Highway Department head Gumersino DeVargas says the state seeks $10 million in matching funds for FY 1975 and could use $13 to $15 million in federal funds if approved within 60 days.
