Abolhassan Bani-Sadr told Le Monde the American hostages might be freed in the shortest possible time if Khomeini and Carter accept a compromise proposed by Iran’s Revolutionary Council. He criticized student actions as meddling in government affairs and said he would not tolerate such behavior amid anniversary events in Tehran with a large military parade.
