Shootin g of Roswell Officer Ends in 1947
Former Roswell police officer Charles Daugherity died in Las Cruces after being wounded in the line of duty during a 1947 Roswell alley shootout. He and Patrolman L G Hall confronted a suspect behind Montgomery Ward. Daugherity was shot five times and survived until 1951. The gunman Rex Ernest Williams died at the top of the stairs. Williams had helped loot the Montgomery Ward store roof well.
