The Senate unanimously approved SB 300 directing 45 million dollars to upgrade a stretch of US 380 east of Roswell. State Sen. Cliff Pirtle lauded the measure, saying the highway is vital to Southeast New Mexico tourism and industry and that safety improvements are needed.
The 2023 NM Kids Count data book analyzes economic, education, health, and family factors to rank child well being. Most data come from 2021 with some 2022 input, showing 24 percent of NM children under the poverty line and higher rates in Mora and San Miguel counties.
An omnibus tax package cleared the New Mexico House 48 to 21 and moves to the Senate where action is due by February 15. Republican representatives Joshua Hernandez Jason Harper Jennifer Jones William Rehm and Luiz Terrazas joined Democrats in backing the package while Chaves County's all Republican delegation opposed passage.
