Plane crash kills three crew as two stewardesses survive

A four engine charter DC6 owned by Mercer Aviation crashed after takeoff from Hollywood Burbank Airport, killing pilot James R. Seccumbe 38 copilot Jack Finger 55 and flight engineer Arthur Bankers while stewardesses Jan Butte 24 Susan Masters 25 and part time employee Guy DeMeo 16 survived. Firemen were badly burned during rescue when flames reignited in the wreckage after the front section could not be entered. The plane attempted an emergency landing at Van Nuys Airport and plunged into a waterlogged field near the Woodley Golf Course as debris scattered along the runway.

Roswell Woman Dies In Cliff Accident Near Tinnie

A Roswell woman, Willem Dianne Grassie Tessier, 22, died Sunday after her car left U S 70 380 east of Tinnie at high speed and rolled multiple times. Her body was found at 10 30 a m at the base of a cliff near Tinnie. The crash ended when she was ejected about 80 feet from the vehicle.

Wagon Train arrives in Rodeo as Bicentennial event greets crowd

The 12 wagons and 40 riders of the Bicentennial Wagon Train reach Rodeo New Mexico from Pasadena with 1,500 cheering locals. The train, averaging 30 miles daily, travels toward Las Cruces and Santa Fe while state safety measures ease and water is supplied by the National Guard. A separate Roswell motorcycle crash leaves one dead, bringing New Mexico highway fatalities to 42 for the year.
