Cincinnati AP reports informed sources say the United States plans up to 15 space satellites in the 1957 58 IGY period. Orders for 15 first stage rockets for three stage Vanguard satellites placed with General Electric.
The state division has a district office at 121 West Walnut Roswell serving Chaves and eight neighboring counties. The program aids civilians disabled by accident or disease through counseling medical exams retraining prosthetic support and job placement in cooperation with the state employment service. James J. Cecil Johnson a Democrat announces his candidacy for county commissioner 1 in Chaves County He has lived in the county 35 years and home on a farm near Roswell since 1937 He opposes eliminating veterans exemptions on taxes calls for the courthouse to stay open five and a half days a week Johnson says officials should serve taxpayers and that local bids should be sought for county purchases He notes a $17 300 rock crusher bought from an Albuquerque supplier without local bidding and urges spending as much as possible in Chaves County.
Trans World Airlines flight with 59 passengers and six crew made an emergency landing in Philadelphia International Airport after two of its four engines failed within seconds. Captain C. T. Morris, 32, of Kansas City, reported the failures occurred at 18 000 feet while en route from Harrisburg to Philadelphia.
A C47 transport aircraft from Norton Air Force Base California exploded during takeoff in Cheyenne Wyoming killing one of the nine men aboard. The crash prompted emergency response and an investigation into the cause of the blast and loss of life.
Governor John F. Simms told the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce banquet that New Mexico could reach about one million residents in five years. He praised revenue efficiency, noting $76,151,399 collected in 1955 with a cost of $1,977,446.30, and called for broad-based economic growth across the state.

The Doctor Examines Your Heart screened February 8 followed by Round Trip on February 15 at 2 pm about rheumatic fever. February 23 doctor panel on Heart with Helen McMillan at 2 pm led by Dr. Salmon and Dr. Bergener.
