Norwood, Roswell leader, dies at 43 in New Mexico
Alan N. Norwood, 43, former Roswell city councilman and Chaves County commissioner, died at St. Marys Hospital after months of illness. A Roswell resident for 16 years, he served on the Eastern New Mexico State Fair board and United Way board. Funeral services are pending. He was born April 27 1930 in Yukon Oklahoma and married Nancy Spencer in Monterrey Mexico in 1952. He held a law degree from the University of Oklahoma and had two sons Steven and David and a daughter Marianne. He was an alderman in 1962–63 and served on the county commission in 1965–66. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Roswell Country Club. Memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Local Roswell Man Dies in One Vehicle Crash
A Roswell man Jimmy D. Herring 23 of 1405 S Pennsylvania Ave died after his pickup ran off West McGaffey Street and overturned 22 miles west of Sunset Avenue. He was pinned and pronounced dead at the scene. Fatigue may have caused the crash. This is Chaves County's first 1974 fatality.
