Airliner Crash Kills Record 133 in Tokyo Bay
A Japanese airliner carrying 133 persons crashed into Tokyo Bay during a 600 mile from Chitose to Tokyo. Rescue boats recovered fuselage and bodies with no sign of survivors. All aboard were Japanese and most passengers had attended the city's snow festival.

Interstate plan would bypass several New Mexico towns
State Highway Commission chair John Sudderth outlined a proposal to designate U.S. 70 as an Interstate. If approved the bypass would affect Roswell Ruidoso Clovis Portales Alamogordo Las Cruces and Mescalero with traffic likely tripling on the current highway and ten years to complete the project.
