The U S Department of Labor official in Denver says Mexico may resume talks with the United States on controversial phases of new contracts to import Mexican Nationals for farm work. Corrigan notes Nationals are used mainly by western farmers and that new contracts add employer protections while preserving worker safeguards.
Ricardo Sandoval, 30, of Wagon Mound, is charged in the fatal beating of Santa Fe section hand Leonor Valenzuela, 48, during a drinking spree. Valenzuela died from a cerebral hemorrhage possibly caused by a head blow. his body found by Mora County Sheriff Ernest Garcia and Marshal William Seedig at Corina Torres’s home. Sandoval is held without bond.

The crash on Arroyo Seco Road six miles north of Taos killed Louis C. Martinez 46 and Juan P. Gonzales 65, both of Valdez. Atilano Roybal 52, also of Valdez, was seriously injured and hospitalized in Taos. The car rolled down a hill at Hondo Canyon mouth, raising the year’s death toll to 39.

In Roswell yesterday Paul C. Corrigan of the Department of Labor and John D. Dean Jr. of the New Mexico Employment Security Commission met with Chaves County Farm Bureau directors. They explained new interim unilateral contracts allowing Mexican nationals to be imported where local officials certify domestic labor as short.

The 80 year old priest spent a decade gathering details, creating an alphabet, and producing an English and Navajo edition for publication. He hopes to publish his full work on the Chiricahua wind way soon.
Funeral services will be held in Socorro for Mrs. George Eanes 57 lifelong New Mexico resident who died Feb 2 after an extended illness. She had been in Socorro three weeks died in the local hospital. Surviving are two daughters Mrs Ralph Gray Artesia and Mrs Louis Munkres Albuquerque three grandchildren and two sisters Mrs Dave McDonald Socorro and Mrs Ben Hardin Bisbee Arizona.
William H. Billy Adams, 92, a towering figure in Colorado politics and the state's only three term governor, died today in Alamosa Colorado. He served three terms as governor and led the Democratic party in the state for decades.
Vatican sources say Pope Pius, ill for ten days with gastric trouble and hiccups, rested fairly well last night for the third consecutive day as officials monitor his condition.
