Roswell voters will decide four bond issues at the April election. Funds would finance sewage disposal 10000 dollars, a new fire pumper 15000 dollars, bridge repairs at 10000 dollars, and street drainage and arterial improvements 10000 dollars. Total 45000 dollars, within current tax levy, with city debt reduced last year.
Berlin reports a general rail strike has left Germany in a firm grip with only sporadic trains operating. The disruption stranded many American business travelers across the country, while another note warns of Civil Service exam shortages. The Civil Service Commission calls attention to limited applicants for several positions, with tests in Roswell New Mexico and other cities. Assistant observer exams set for February 16 and others for March 8. Interested persons should contact the Secretary of the U. S. Civil Service Board at the local post office for details and applications.
The note urges residents to start lawn work now to ensure a well kept yard. It stresses not waiting till spring and compares to neighbors already tending their lawns, framing lawn upkeep as a civic responsibility and potential asset.

Rangers federal agents and guardsmen are ordered to Teague while the guard camp remains at Winter Garden. Prohibition violators and moonshiners are cited as targets with reconnoitering planes and stills found. no increase in national guard force is planned.
Washington Feb 3 Congressional action to halt construction of battleships from the armament conference is expected soon. Such action will save five million dollars a month for American taxpayers. Congressional leaders are eager to make the naval holiday a reality as soon as possible.
A puff of smoke from the Sistine chapel signaled the first cardinals ballot was unsuccessful. With 54 cardinals including American Cardinal O Connell, they deliberate in the conclave for a successor to Pope Benedict Fifteenth. In San Francisco, the Abuckle jury disagreed and was discharged as the panel stood ten to two for conviction.
