Capture of Womble Holt ends Roswell shooting manhunt
W. B. Holt alias Garvie Lee Womble, who escaped the New Mexico penitentiary nearly two years ago while serving 16 years for assault with intent to murder, was captured in Amarillo. Identified by fingerprint, he had shot Roswell police Chief T A Alford and fire chief Rue Chrisman in 1929, then fled and was found after police spotted him attempting to rob parked cars at a dance. He is jailed in Potter County awaiting extradition.
