Firemen Overcome By Fumes In Tobacco Fire

San Francisco February 2. A tobacco warehouse blaze sent smoke fumes through the basement. Firemen were overcome by tobacco fumes and several had to be rescued. Six firefighters were carried from the building and one recovery is doubtful. Loss placed around ten thousand dollars.

Railroads Refuse Wage Demands in Arbitration Offer

Sixty railroads notified thirty two thousand firemen that wage increases of twenty to twenty five percent and other concessions are rejected. The roads say they are willing to arbitrate wages but refuse other demands. The message came via private dispatch from Chicago.
