Early yesterday at 4 30 a m a blaze engulfed the White man block on south Main street Roswell destroying the Gem restaurant Silver Dollar saloon and adjacent shops. The loss runs to about 22 000 with insurance. Several occupants fled for their lives and thefts from the burned buildings are blamed on Mexicans. Lincoln Whiteman saved the books from the safe while others escaped. The fire caused extensive damage to stock fixtures and property with uncertain plans to rebuild.
