Roswell headquarters announce formation of the Line from Roswell to Torrance. Work to begin by March with capital stock set at five million dollars, ten percent paid in.
Articles of incorporation filed in Santa Fe for the Torrance Roswell and Gulf Railroad. The five million dollar stock has ten percent paid in with headquarters at Roswell. Work expected to start by March. Names include Andrews Torrance Hopewell Kennedy and Clark as incorporators.
Minneapolis will see the largest consolidation of insurance interests in U S history when five major local agencies unite under the Minneapolis Insurance Agency. Each retains its name while sharing a general office to improve management efficiency. The coalition covers twenty seven top American insurers with a net surplus over sixty million dollars.
A Chicago fire causes extensive damage to buildings and property while a separate Nebraska blaze results in a fatality. Fire crews respond to both incidents, with investigations underway to determine causes and extent of losses.

Secretary Taft announced after a Roosevelt conference that about five hundred Porto Rican workers will be taken to the Isthmus of Panama to join canal construction. The plan seeks to test using Porto Rican labor in the American zone of the canal project.
President Roosevelt directed the removal of John H. Hall U S District Attorney for Oregon. Hall had led prosecutions in land fraud cases and his dismissal is tied to those investigations.
A. R. Hemphill and wife were struck and killed near Carbondale Illinois by a fast Illinois Central passenger train today. Hemphill, said to be intoxicated, started toward Carbondale as Mrs. Hemphill tried to stop him. He threw her onto the tracks and held her there as the train passed.
Mrs McIntire entertained the evening six hand euchre club at E A Cahoon residence on North Kentucky avenue last Wednesday. The Christmas decorated rooms and pleasant evening followed a game with three tables. Mrs McGaffey was the only invited guest. After the game a two course luncheon was served in Mrs McIntire's dainty manner.
Dr. L B Raschbaum of Amarillo Texas, specialist in eye ear nose and throat diseases, is here by request of former patients. He plans to stay in Roswell until about January 3 and will base his practice with Doctors Joyner and Yater.
