NovaBUS Roswell Plant Closure Affects City Jobs
NovaBUS will close its Roswell plant and offer the site for sale after layoffs reduce crews to a single shift. Union president Eldon Marek Sr. warned of uncertain work through early 2002, while two potential buyers were named by Travis Kirkland of the Chaves County Economic Development Foundation.

ILEA Opens at ENMU Roswell for Midlevel Police Training
The International Law Enforcement Academy began at Eastern New Mexico University Roswell in August to train mid level and senior officers from democratic nations. The first class from the Far East graduated in September and a third class from Honduras Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic is due January 14.

Noise and controversy mark hearings on waste site near Roswell
On Oct. 15 2001 hearings opened in Pueblo Auditorium on a proposed waste disposal site owned by the Marley family east of Roswell near Tatum. Environmental groups cited risks to the Lesser Prairie Chicken and sand dune lizard and potential toxic spills while attendees debated permitting steps and traffic impacts. A final decision on permitting was expected in Jan or Feb.
