Washington reports a global guessing game over the draft of a new farm aid program the Eisenhower administration will present to Congress next month. The talks center on price supports, production controls, export plans, and replacing the existing four billion dollar program with a flexible system.
Authorities report no solid leads in locating Arthur L. Frederick who walked away from the State Insane Asylum. State Police check rail hubs bus and truck terminals after a sighting near Sands between Santa Fe and Las Vegas. Frederick, 42, was committed November 20 on Dr Rudolph Kieve's recommendation amid insanity signs.
The Internal Revenue Bureau announces a $50 gambling tax stamp issued to Ray A Means of Los Alamos. The stamp remains valid through June 30.
Temperatures recorded at 3 hour intervals from 2 p m yesterday to 11 a m today show highs near 45 and a low around 20 with normal values for the date. Precipitation since midnight minimal and month to date light, year to date accumulated. Sunrise 7 01, sunset 4 59, length of day 10 hours. Father Alfonso Ziratti of Rome arrives in Roswell traveling from Lake Charles to meet with Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Tigner at 108 W Deming. The Tigners met Ziratti in Rome during the Holy Year in 1950.
Firefighters gain ground as two major fires creep toward Mt Wilson and Mt Baldy areas. Hundreds evacuated, equipment from Los Angeles area stations rushed to assist. Observers report 100 inch telescope dome and sensitive instruments moved to safety while coaxial cables feeding LA TV remain intact.
Thirteen year old Gerald Stark was stabbed in the hip and pinned to the barn floor when a hayfork fell at Kirby Bess’s farm near Flint. Bess freed him by cutting the tine with a hack saw. the boy was taken to Goodrich Hospital.
Gen Mark W Clark was appointed chairman of the American Heart Association 1954 Heart Fund to raise money for heart disease research and aid for patients. Announcement of the appointment came yesterday.
A 7:30 p.m. meeting at the chamber of commerce brings together merchants and Roswell officials to discuss alley parking and steps to help Roswell reach Class 6 fire rating. City Manager Woodbury urges broad merchant attendance to cut fire insurance rates by about 15 percent. alley parking hearings follow. Max Shepherd will chair.

In Peru Indiana a Chesapeake and Ohio freight train stopped at a red signal when an automobile struck the locomotive. Driver Charles O Windoffer, 59, argued with the engineer and was arrested by Sheriff J M Behle for drunken driving and public intoxication. He paid fines totaling $129.50 in City Court.
Secretary of State Dulles indicated the United States would retaliate via sea and air against aggressor forces if Communist China intervenes in Indochina or renews Korea fighting. He noted Washington could strike outside Korea and Indochina and that U S power grows in other areas even as ground forces decline.
The Albuquerque Weather Bureau says a mild cold front moves into northern New Mexico tonight and drifts southward tomorrow. Temperatures will drop only slightly with most areas spared a harsh Arctic mass now spreading across the central plains. readings rose to 13 degrees above the prior 24 hours in eastern regions.
AP reports Maj. Gen. Hershey denied Rep. Harrison that Virginia draft boards use deferments to aid farm surpluses. Harrison contests the circular as turning selective service into agricultural control, while White and officials say boards are not instructed to weigh surpluses and that no state circular exists elsewhere.
Two U S soldiers held since 1949 and 1952 were freed and turned over to U S authorities in Berlin. Pvt Homer H Cox 33 from Tulsa Oklahoma and Leland H Towers 28 a merchant seaman of San Francisco were said to be in Russian prison camps. They were picked up at Karlshorst by Army officers and placed in custody for questioning after medical checks.

A judgment totaling $5 146.75 was filed in district court in the case of G A White versus H E Ralston and Carl M Sehnarr doing business as Ralston Oil Co and William T Richardson. The triple car crash occurred on U S Highway 285 four miles north of Roswell on February 10. Richardson drove a 1952 pickup causing a 1949 White truck to crash into White's 1952 Chevrolet with trailer.
Fort Worth reports Norman Davenport, 25, jailed fugitive who escaped Granite reformatory, arraigned before a U S commissioner at a hospital bed. He could not post 25000 bond and was returned to jail. Davenport refused to plead or speak, and is held for Oklahoma authorities after capture near Arlington.
A big Army truck overturned at Holloman Air Development Center, killing Pfc. Cleon R. Stephens of Crystal River Florida and injuring 17 others. Pfc. Bobby Turner of Holloman remained in critical condition at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas, with 16 more hospitalized for observation and none in immediate danger.
Henderson, former mayor of Farwell Texas, seeks a stay of sentence on a four year federal conviction for grain fraud. He is serving a one year Texas term on a related conviction. Wayne S. Marteney, convicted with Henderson, also appealed.
President Eisenhower created a three member emergency board to prevent a possible strike by 15 non operating railroad unions representing clerks and track workers on 150 railroads. The 60 day no strike period allows hearings and settlement terms with subsequent union management talks based on the board findings.
South Korean President Syngman Rhee urged Allied nations to halt future talks with the Communists and join in what he called the last great battle to destroy Red forces. He warned negotiations are futile while Chinese Communists remain on Korean soil and urged decisive action to secure freedom.
