Israelis to Talk Peace Again at UN Talks Restart

Israel will return to Middle East peace talks at the United Nations with Egypt and Jordan after cabinet approvals. Coast Guard rescues 31 from split Finnish tanker

A Coast Guard cutter Escanaba rescued 31 crewmen from the stern of a Finnish tanker that split in two amid heavy seas. Six others, including the master and chief engineer, were stranded on the bow section as it broke apart on Sunday near Bermuda.

Rivers Dies at 65 After Heart Surgery in Alabama

Rep L Mendel Rivers long time head of the House Armed Services Committee died at University Hospital in Birmingham following heart failure after surgery to replace a leaking mitral valve. He was 65 and had survived prior heart stoppages. Hebert will succeed Rivers as chairman in the next Congress under the seniority system.

No Property Tax Credit Viewed in New Mexico

Snead to Take Oath as District Court Judge

Paul Snead of Roswell will take the oath of office as a district court judge in a ceremony in the Chaves County Courthouse district courtroom. Judge George Reese will administer the oath.
