Sen Wayne Morse of Oregon made a brief visit to Roswell Municipal Airport today but did not meet reporters. A spokesman aboard a Martin 404 said there was no senator. after takeoff an airport employee said the large private craft was Morse’s plane.
District Judge E T Hensley Jr of Portales overruled motions to reopen the Hagerman Canal case but the ruling does not automatically grant Hagerman Canal Co the right to drill eight artesian wells in East Grand Plains south of here per Fred Hennighausen.
North Carolina tobacco firms begin releasing packs with health warnings as federal law deadline approaches. In Raleigh area, new warning displays appear on S&Ms. In El Paso, Johnny Cash pleads guilty to drug possession after airport arrest. District Judge E T Hensley Jr of Portales said he will file a judgment in the Chaves County clerk's office on January 10 ordering meters on all irrigation wells in the Roswell Artesian Basin by January 1967. The decree sets a three acre feet per acre per year duty, with a five year limit of 15 acre feet, and requires a state watermaster to enforce the decree starting July 1966. Appeals run 30 days after Jan 10, and PVACD had opposed metering at the three acre feet rate.

In Santa Fe two candidates for the New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial nomination acknowledge trailing the leading candidate John Burroughs while still optimistic. Gene Lusk of Carlsbad and Bruce King of Stanley say 383 convention votes are within reach for ballot inclusion as Burroughs leads the three way race.
Aircraft, ships and divers searched the North Sea for eight men missing from the 5600 ton Sea Gem oil rig that capsized 40 miles east of the Humber estuary. Five crewmen were killed, 19 survived, and hopes of finding more were slim. The Sea Gem, near its planned relocation, marked a setback in Britain's gas piping project slated for 1967.
At U S Steel in Pittsburgh Joseph F McLaughlin showed coworkers a 400000 dollar Gimbels gift certificate. His wife had bought a 10 dollar certificate by mistake and could not return it in time. Gimbels later gave him a 100 dollar certificate and kept the 400000 certificate void.
