At the Lions Club annual Christmas party at the fair grounds, 2400 children received toys donated and distributed by volunteers. Firemen repaired and repainted old toys, clubs purchased new ones, and Gus Winters supplied candy as hundreds arrived early.
Between 100 and 150 dollars worth of luggage and clothing vanished from the Price and Company store. The theft occurred after closing Saturday night and before opening Sunday morning with no forced entry evident. Police and county officers are investigating a possible hidden intruder exiting via the back door.

Mrs Effie McAnally longtime East Grand Plains resident died at 8 30 pm after a three week illness She was born August 28 1870 in El Dorado Kansas aged 69 She is survived by two daughters Mrs C L Peebles of Alto NM and Mrs W L Smith of this city two sons M D McAnally of El Centro CA en route to Roswell and R W McAnally of House NM three brothers and three sisters Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 pm at Talmage Memorial Chapel with Rev T W Brabham in charge Interment at South Park

Snow covered Roswell and most of New Mexico on Christmas Day with a 1.8 inch depth and .22 inch total precipitation per the weather bureau. Earlier records show only one prior Christmas snow in 1914. Warmer sun reduced snow cover today while roads remained slick from Portales to Amarillo with ice en route from Albuquerque.
H A Hollis of Artesia died from injuries after a crash of three trucks on the Felix river bridge near Hagerman Saturday afternoon. Pat Patterson of Roswell was injured but not seriously. Don Davis of Alamogordo was uninjured. State patrolman Bob Scoggins investigated. cause not learned.
In Ludington Michigan on December 26 John Slavickas 54 killed his wife 45 wounded his daughter 23 then killed himself after a quarrel near a Christmas tree in the farm home. Daughter Christine Hirley is in critical condition. Four sons and Christine’s husband Chalmers fled with furniture and took the wounded to a neighbor.

A German freighter captured by the British cruiser Despatch remains under prize crew and is cleared by the U S Army to proceed to sea toward Jamaica via the Panama Canal. The Duesseldorf, 4930 tons, was seized December 15 off Valparaiso and is under Captain Peterson with orders from Lt Cmdr Herabeth.
Arthur H. Rockafellow died at his Brookline Massachusetts home on December 22 after a short illness of pneumonia. He was 75, had come to Roswell in the early 1890s and worked there for years, serving as postmaster about twenty years ago. He is survived by his wife and five children, with funeral services held in Brookline. The Rockafellows were prominent in Roswell’s early business social and church life.
Kiwanians who attended today's meeting described a fine time by a small but select group. The program was reported as informal and enjoyed by all present.
