Roswell organist Pirtle’s six decades of music faith and work
Roswell native Pirtle learned organ through lessons with Alva Wilson after moving to the city in 1949. She became Tabernacle Baptist Church organist in 1952, married Tom Pirtle, taught music at home and at Ginsberg Music Co., oversaw the sheet music department, and mentored hundreds of students while playing at churches across southeast New Mexico. She retired fully after 59 years at the organ, citing eye strain, and remains a key figure in Roswell’s musical life.
