Washington dispatch reports a shock in republican ranks as six Newberry backers threaten to unseat him unless he defends the campaign spending against Henry Ford. The move centers on the money used in the long senate fight over Newberrys 1918 campaign.
Houston December 24 A woman identified as Mrs MeaMen admits killing W S Thomas a railroad switchman after an argument over drinking whiskey in the same house police report. The alleged confession states a fight ensued and she fired the shot to kill him.
A wireless message from Boston reports the steamer Mount Evans in distress six hundred miles east. The vessel lacks fuel oil and carries a fifty man crew. Navy yard officials in Charleston say the ship may be in tow but have no confirmation.
State guardsmen arrived in Newport Kentucky to restore order after a steel workers strike. Four companies of the guardsmen were dispatched following a request to Governor Morrow from Newport and Covington citizens. In Austin Governor Neff planned to grant pardons to twenty convicts by Christmas, not yet announced.
Austin December 24. The railroad commission says the grain rate reduction set for December 27 has been postponed to January 7 due to railroads not having tariffs published and distributed to all agents in time.
In Cairo on December 24 a mob attacked British government officers at Gisa a Cairo suburb. British troops rushed to the scene to quell the violence and restore order as authorities monitored developments.
Christmas concert on December 25 at 7 30 p m features organ voluntary Christmas Eve by Adam Geibel, carols by Junior and Adult Choirs, and selections with Rev Rudolph Caughey and Mr Coulthard. Cantique de Noel and Behold the Mighty Conqueror are performed, with Benediction and postlude by Mockowskil, Mrs J E McClane directing.
The First Methodist Church South presents Ira D. Wilson’s cantata The Bright and Morning Star sung at 10 45am with chorus soloists and an afternoon program for children at 7 30pm. Organ prelude and multiple choral pieces feature Bethlehem themes and a final Glory to God.
The Christian Church Choir presents a Sunday night program at 7 30 featuring an organ prelude hymn Joy to the World and an anthem The Message of Christmas with pantomimed verse scenes of shepherds manger and wise men Each scene has a corresponding anthem and pantomime Then a short sermon hymn and benediction conclude the program The public is invited

Bush of Des Moines abducted and robbed, condition critical after recovery. Detroit manufacturer John A. McRae and his Chicago representative’s wife among victims. Ardmore inquiry into Ku Klux Klan activity follows Fred Bourland questioning delays.
Washington December 24 Official orders for the release of Eugene Debs and 23 other political prisoners from three federal prisons were sent to the Department of Justice. The decision followed a conference between President Harding and Attorney General Daugherty to release further prisoners after Christmas.
