The Roswell Orchestra gave a holiday concert at Pearson Auditorium on December 18. The El Paso Brass plus guest performers delivered jazz flavored carols and familiar classics like Silent Night and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Vandals target motor home windshield in South Holland Drive area
Police report vandalism on a motor home windshield in the 400 block of South Holland Drive with an estimated replacement cost of 1000 dollars. A separate larceny involved a 350 dollar Craftsman lawnmower from the 300 block of East Poe Street. Stranded ASU student rescued after nine day ordeal
Lauren Weinberg, a 23 year old Arizona State University student, survived nine days in a snowbound car with two candy bars and a bottle of melted snow for water. Rescuers pulled her from a remote Mogollon Rim area near Winslow after heavy snows and near zero temperatures. A Texas family also survived two days buried in an SUV on a New Mexico highway, prompting reminders to carry water and a sleeping bag for winter travel.

Hagerman Canal Bridge Reopens On NM2
The New Mexico Department of Transportation says the Hagerman Canal Bridge on NM2 in Dexter is complete and open to traffic. A new metal pipe arch bridge replaces the old timber structure. Mountain States Constructors Inc. of Albuquerque is the contractor on the $4.7 million project. Minor work remains and NMDOT plans NM2 rehabilitation further south in 2013.
