Judge rejects block on Arizona employer sanctions law
U S District Judge Neil Wake refused to block Arizona's new sanctions law targeting businesses that knowingly employ illegal immigrants. He found little harm to law abiding employers and noted the burden on challengers would be smaller than potential public harm, while allowing a Jan. 16 hearing on a preliminary injunction. The law, enacted by the Republican-led Legislature and signed by Gov. Napolitano, permits suspending up to 10 days for first offenses and license revocation for repeat violations, with use of a federal system to check new hires.
