Fairbanks Alaska witnesses a Christmas pageant by Fairbanks High School choir at Ladd Air Force Base hospital. Girls dressed as angels walked the corridor as a serviceman patient wheeled from the operating room exclaimed with distress, thinking he was dying.
Two Roswell high school girls Bonnie Duurler and Kay Price collected donations for Hungarian relief by selling cookies, adding $8.74 to the Red Cross fund. Receipts were turned over to Camilla Keefe, and the fund total rose to $732.24 of a $1,266 county quota. Additional donations urged at the Chamber of Commerce or First National Bank. Two donors each gave $50 and added $59 more.
Stores will be open Monday and closed Tuesday with Wednesday reopening. Banks and main street businesses follow Monday open Tuesday closed. Building and Loan Associations in Roswell announce a 3% vacation for employees. The sheriff's office and State Patrol will operate through the holidays. The justice of the peace opens Monday but is closed Tuesday, on call. All other courthouse offices close Saturday noon and reopen Wednesday. Only the police department will function on Christmas Day.
Vice President Nixon said there are enough Hungarian refugees in the pipeline to extend the airlift to January 10. Operation Safe Haven has flown 4,800 refugees from Munich with a goal of 9,700 by December 30. Nixon noted urgent refugee needs, planned to report to Eisenhower, and prepared for Iceland stopover before returning home.

Turkeys and cooking utensils stolen from Berrendo High School cafeteria were found dumped in the nearby river. Deputy Jim Decker reported 18 turkeys and several pie pans, a mixing bowl, and other utensils recovered and turned over to Reb L. Villard, school board building and grounds supervisor.
Max Shepherd was elected president of the Community Service Center board at the annual meeting. Officers include O. V. Lawrence as vice president and Mrs. Paul Goodsell as secretary treasurer. Returning members Ray Izzard Will Lawrence Reed Mukey Robert H. Beck Ben Ginsberg plus new directors Larry Hess and Ray Pratt. Col. George W. Porter and WAFB Base representatives serve on the CSC board.

Only a few hundred foreign visitors are expected, breaking the usual thousands. Arab Christians will cross Mandelbaum Gate to celebrate with relatives in Jordan, then return by 5 PM Christmas night.
Alamogordo reports Otero County merchants posted a September sales bonanza of 5 42 765 dollars, the first month over 5 million and up 103.7 percent from a year earlier. Nine months 1956 total reached 34 632 190 dollars, exceeding all of last year’s county retail sales by about half a million.
Atty. Gen.-elect Fred Standley announced John Jennings of Roswell will serve as special assistant attorney general in the state engineer's office starting January 1 to handle a water rights suit in Chaves County District Court. Jennings succeeds Jack Love who resigned to move to Lovington.
Coy Gene Males, 22, charged with murder in the death of Pete Horton Baca, 23, after a Nov 29 shooting following a car chase near an east west road 2.2 miles south of McGaffey. A 270 rifle round killed Baca who died at St. Marys Hospital at 2:19 a.m. the following day.
Roswell readers are urged to attend church services centered on the Christmas story. Immanuel Lutheran Church First Church of the Nazarene and First Methodist offer Christmas Eve programs at listed locations. Some churches will hold Christmas Day services as well.

D B DeBoll a Clovis resident aged about 40 became the 384th NM traffic victim after his car hit a pipe laden truck on U S 60 70 between Clovis and Mexico. June D Grimes 23 of Hobbs NM was NM 383rd fatality when her car left a curve near Hobbs and struck guard rails. Bernice McEntire Russell 46 of Hobbs died in Naples Texas in a collision between a pickup and a transcontinental bus. husband W H Russell in serious condition. Other NM accidents injured three women including Hazel Morgan 23 and Clarence Robinson 63 in head on crash on U S 60 80 west of St Vrain. Leona Russ 47 of Clovis injured after falling from a car hitting a guard rail overpass on U S 54 70 near Alam.
