CHAVES COUNTY 4-H held its 1970 awards night at the Woman’s Club with multiple honors. James Goodrum received a meritorious service award for coaching wool judging teams and sponsoring national contests in Sonora Texas. Sam Bradley earned special recognition for 21 years as a 4-H club leader. Silver Clover Leaders went to Mrs. Gilbert Monroe Mrs. Jane Chambers Mrs. Carl Dennis and Joe Sims. Ray Miles and Ann Brewer received I Dare You awards from Ralston Purina. Leadership and achievement prizes were also awarded to Patti Dennis G T Lewis Ann Brewer Alan Sims and others.

Major banks led by Chase Manhattan cut the prime rate to 6 1 2 percent from 7 percent amid easing loan demand. The move, the fifth reduction this year, was followed by Bank of America First National City Chemical and others as economists expected mortgage and personal loan costs to ease later. Chase cited flexible policy and lower market rates citing the four week since the last cut. The race of rate cuts comes after the prime rate peaked at 8 percent on June 9 1969.
