Spanish leader visits Iraq with troops on the way
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar visited Spanish troops in Iraq to voice support for their mission as the United States announced 2000 additional troops and Japan pledged 1000 humanitarian forces. At the same time U S forces fatally shot three Iraqi policemen at a checkpoint near Kirkuk, wounding two. In Najaf, several former Baath officials were killed or attacked in what officials described as revenge killings tied to Saddam era repression. A pre-dawn raid in Tikrit netted a shopkeeper linked to a bomb attack that injured three American soldiers.
