Roswell celebrates its first Christmas in 1886 frontier town
The Roswell Register recalls Roswell's 1886 public Christmas in an adobe schoolhouse with 300 attendees and gifts for each child. It notes a second 1887 or 1888 celebration on Main Street, and details from early ranches include visitors, bunkhouse stays, and simple Cedar trees with handmade gifts, wild game dinners, and child centered programs.
