Desert Fighter Wavell Leads British North Africa Drive
The profile portrays General Sir Archibald P. Wavell as the guiding mind of the British desert campaign in North Africa. A Scot born 57 years ago, he rose through the ranks since 1901, earning knighthood and full generalship, famed for swift tactics, desert warfare study under Allenby, and a sharp vision of campaigning across Palestine and Syria. He is noted for his monocle after losing an eye, his athleticism in skiing and golf, and his family of a wife and four children. The piece also touches on Roswell’s transformation from desert to modern city and growth in southeastern New Mexico.
