Roswell Upgrades to Narrow Band Radio System Funding
The FCC requires a 12.5 kHz shift to widen channels and reduce interference, with Homeland Security rules pushing digital gear. Last year Roswell and Lincoln County received 830,000 in homeland funds, with 780,000 for communications and 50,000 for Access ID. This year 240,000 buys a rescue trailer. 1,500 funds emergency management training. The first grant bought 11 repeaters and 823 radios. The board must decide allocation as plans aim to expand coverage and frequencies, amid tight budgets and uncertain state funding.
