Chaves County commissioners approve a new zoning article for sexually oriented businesses, permitting licensing inspection and enforcement. The 5-0 vote enacts a modified dispersal framework requiring adult enterprises to be in commercial or industrial zones, at least a mile from homes schools parks and religious sites.
NMMI awarded diplomas to 30 cadets at Pearson Auditorium including one high school graduate with high honors Gus Hendricks Liakos and five other high school honorees. From the junior college group James Thornton Dillion III Joshua Davis Mote Janellis Meritzel Collins Benjamin Rice Fischman Julien Albert Laurent and Ashlei Donn Swaim earned honors alongside 12 additional cadets. Roswell police arrested Nickolaus Paul Gottlieb 22, on warrants for felon in possession of a firearm and probation violation after a vehicle search uncovered two guns from a June traffic stop. The department credited tips from the public and the Roswell's Most Wanted page.
The final defendant in a Curry County meth trafficking conspiracy pleaded guilty in federal court. Tina Tafoya 33 of Clovis admitted participating in the conspiracy and faces 78 months in prison plus five years of supervised release. Co defendants Kidd Perez and Driever also pleaded guilty in recent months.
The Roswell Public Library fixed its heating after a 15 to 20 year old boiler failed in February. Heat pumps powering the roof install include two 40-ton units and a 4-ton computer room unit. The Rhoads Company bent bids to fit the library budget and pledged community support.
