Across the Russian Empire a general strike is planned for all industries except bakeries with top authorities urging calm and compliance. Trade unions mobilize workers in major cities as transport and factories prepare for potential disruption tomorrow.
A proclaimed general strike paralyzes parts of the Russian empire as Red leadership aims to force a crisis, with troops deployed and bakeries constrained. Simultaneously two Washington fires cause $100,000 damage, injuring four women rescued from a burning piano building as another firm’s fire harms nearby structures.
About one hundred members gathered at the Roswell Commercial Club rooms for a smoker honoring Judge Edward A. Mann of the Sixth District, who is holding court in the district in Judge Pope’s absence. Attendees included U S Attorney Llewellyn Special Agent DeZendorf Court Stenographer A B Reading and contractor Mr Steen. The funeral for the late Mrs. Chas Mussenden was held at 1 30 this afternoon from the northeast Roswell home with Rev S R Twitty of the Southern M E church officiating. Many neighbors and city friends attended. Interment followed at South Side Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Gus Beidleman and their children departed this morning for a two week holiday visit to their former home in Bristol Tennessee.

A search party near Flagstaff Arizona found Perry McGargle and David F Fassett stranded 13 miles from town. They were without food or fuel but saved themselves by lighting a gasoline fire to keep warm. The rescuers were led to the site by smoke. The search party also found logger Thomas Smith dead, missing two days. Nearby a government irrigation project contract was ratified and work will begin.
Dispatch from Tiflis dated December 18 reports Armenians persecute Mussulmans in Tiflis and across Caucasia. Muslims hunted without distinction by Armenians. about two thousand Mussulman families seek refuge in nearby villages as Cossacks and troops loot homes in Batoum.
Leonard Imboden and Jas A Hill were found guilty on four counts by a jury for embezzlement and conspiracy in the wrecking of the Denver Savings Bank. Punishment ranges from one to ten years. A motion for a new trial will be argued tomorrow.
The Belgian legation demands Edward Joris be handed to Belgian authorities for trial under the 1848 treaty. The Porte objects, risking trouble. Joris, a Belgian, is accused with three others of involvement in an assassination attempt on the Sultan last July and was sentenced to death on December 18 by a local court.

Native steers fetch 3.75 to 6.25, southern steers 2.50 to 4.50, native cows 2.00 to 3.25, stockers 2.75 to 4.60, calves 3.00 to 7.25, western stock 3.25 to 4.80. Sheep receipts 4,000 with prices steady to 10 cents lower. muttons 4.59 to 5.90, lambs 5.50 to 7.50, range wethers 5.50 to 6.50, fed ewes 4.25 to 5.25.
The Carlsbad meeting on Monday approved the stockholders election for the Pecos Water Users’ Association by unanimous vote. Details on candidates and positions were not fully disclosed in the readable text.
After disposing of the Tallmadge case this morning, Federal Court adjourned and the Russell Overman damage suit trial resumed in Territorial court. This will probably be the last jury trial of the special term as all jurors except those in this case have been dismissed.

A morning blaze in the women’s quarters on Blackwell Island New York caused excitement as the male convicts were turned loose. After a hard fight 21 the women were rescued, with the fire confined to the women’s department.
A Bride Doll raffle will be held at Price's Store on December 23 at 3 p m with tickets priced at 0 cents each. Proceeds benefit the Catholic Ladies Society. The event invites community participation and aims to raise funds for the society's charitable activities.
