Courthouse Repairs Considered as Leaks Prompt Lets and Plans

Chaves County officials toured a basement office where plaster fell due to leaking walls in the courthouse. County Agent John Chappell described mold and water damage while noting a push to fund renovations with roughly 400000 dollars in 1972 revenue sharing and 468000 grant work stalled by rising costs. Larceny of livestock case set for Jan 10 hearing

Thomas Joe Dye of 2706 Highland Road faces a preliminary hearing January 10 on a larceny of livestock charge. He is accused of stealing seven cattle owned by Jack Frazier of Causey around October 20 and is out on a $2,000 bond. Investigators Dale Cooper Mel Sedillo of the New Mexico Livestock Board and Smoky Bunch of the Chaves County Sheriff's Office led the case.

Out of state contractor testifies bribery tied to NM licensing

An Albuquerque based electrician Bill D Allman testified at a State Personnel Board hearing that Construction Industries Commission administrator Eva Morris accepted $500 to speed his New Mexico electrical license exam in late 1971. He described pre exam solicitations of $200 and a later envelope payment, with the commission employee allegedly guiding him to pass the exam.

Title I in Title I dispute blocks stay injunction appeal

Mrs. Robert Shanks a former Title I Parents Advisory Council member says the six to eight month delay in special education stems from an appeal to the 10th Circuit Denver. Supermarket tenant joins center here

A supermarket chain will join K Mart at a planned shopping center at the southeast corner of South Main and Hobbs Streets. Pacific Coast properties of Los Angeles develops the project and plans to start construction before March. The department store will occupy about 60,000 sq ft as the major tenant.

Purchasing agent to retire here in Chaves County

Chaves County purchasing agent Ken Dennis will retire January 1 after five years in the county commissioner office. Dennis, with the office since November 1967, plans part time work there after retirement. He came to Roswell for milder climate and was stationed in 1942 with the U S Army.

Court Allows Release of Child Records in Corrections Order

Judge Paul Snead signs an order in Chaves County Children's Court permitting the Department of Corrections to release law enforcement social psychological and medical records of children committed to the New Mexico Boys School and Girls Welfare Home to any interested person or agency when necessary for rehabilitation or future planning. The order limits disclosures to information in the child’s best interests and applies to current and past commitments, deeming it part of the commitment provisions.
