OPEC Boosts Oil Prices in Staged Increase

Carlsbad wrestlers survive fatal crash on return from Albuquerque

Frederick, coach of Carlsbad Senior High School wrestling, said the bus carrying 12 wrestlers, three managers, five cheerleaders and the driver was 10 to 15 miles north of Carlsbad on U.S. 285 when it collided with a car driven by Abel Rascon of Artesia, who died of massive head and internal injuries. No one on the bus was seriously injured. the driver Weldon Johnson was hospitalized for observation and minor injuries.

Texas teens in ski trip bus overturns in New Mexico

A Continental Trailways charter bus carrying 42 Texas teenagers and sponsors from Spring Baptist Church overturned on icy New Mexico 44 near Cuba. One rider to be kept overnight for observation. others treated for bruises and cuts. The group heads to Purgatory ski area and the trip was an annual church outing led by Rennie Calloway with Pastor Harlon Caton.

Truck carries smoldering phosphate near Clines Corners

A Yellow Freight truck traveling I 40 US 285 near Clines Corners dumped a trailer load of organic phosphate sacks after smoke appeared. Wright replica flight in Kitty Hawk falls short but succeeds

Ken Kellett attempted a 1903 Wright brothers replica flight to mark the 75th anniversary in Kitty Hawk North Carolina. The first run stalled on the sand dune track with a 5 mph descent and a gust lifting the nose notching seconds, yet the event drew about 5000 spectators including Griffin Bell and Brock Adams.
