New Mexico Faces Third-Widest Income Gap in U S

A liberal policy group reports that since the late 1970s the wealth gap widened in 44 states and New Mexico now ranks third in the nation for income disparity among families with children. The top 20 percent gained about 30 percent to a mean of 117 500, while the bottom 20 percent fell about 21 percent to 9 250, with the middle 60 also shrinking.

U-Haul to Feature Roswell Theme on Trucks in New Drive

U-Haul International plans a community service themed campaign featuring the Roswell Incident on its trucks and trailers. The design, by Steve King, will appear on multiple vehicle sizes with an unveiling set for January 12 in Roswell near the UFO Museum. Dignitaries from across New Mexico are invited. The museum provided materials, and Jeopardy! researchers also contacted Crosby for exact museum naming.

Levi foundation offers $8 million in grants

About 60 community members nonprofit groups and Levi Strauss and Co employees met Tuesday night at the Sally Port Inn with Levi Strauss Foundation consultants to discuss organizing and delivering services to soon-to-be unemployed workers. The foundation will provide $8 million in emergency and legacy grants for 11 plants slated to close early next year. Nonprofits may apply for emergency grants by showing plant closures harmed their operations, with information due in six to eight months. A legacy grant supports long term economic development benefiting the whole community. Calls for information were set to the El Paso office.

Roswell Museum appoints Laurie Rufe as new director

Laurie Rufe, assistant director for a decade, will replace Bill Ebie as director of the Roswell Museum and Art Center. Ebie steps down to Taos with his wife Teresa, who takes over the Notre Dame Taos program. Rufe begins February 20 after a staff-only hiring process and board approval.
