Levi foundation offers $8 million in grants
About 60 community members nonprofit groups and Levi Strauss and Co employees met Tuesday night at the Sally Port Inn with Levi Strauss Foundation consultants to discuss organizing and delivering services to soon-to-be unemployed workers. The foundation will provide $8 million in emergency and legacy grants for 11 plants slated to close early next year. Nonprofits may apply for emergency grants by showing plant closures harmed their operations, with information due in six to eight months. A legacy grant supports long term economic development benefiting the whole community. Calls for information were set to the El Paso office.
