Notre Dame Wins Court Injunction Over Film and Novel

State Supreme Court in New York granted a temporary injunction blocking the release of a film and the publication of the novel they are based on. Justice Henry Clay Greenberg ruled the movie and book illegally used Notre Dame names and symbols for profit, calling the script ugly and tawdry. The production cost four million dollars and aimed for a Christmas opening.

Two Pinned in Wrecks Of Autos

Two major highway accidents near Roswell sent victims to the hospital with serious injuries. S Sgt Earl Reynolds of Walker AFB was trapped under a camper pickup for hours after a 1 a.m. crash on State highway 48 four miles NW of Roswell. he suffered a broken leg and contusions and was moved to El Paso’s Beaumont Hospital. Alfred Clay, 24, faced reckless driving and no license charges after a 4:23 a.m. crash on U.S. 285 three miles south of Roswell. Passenger Gloria Najar sustained back injuries and was hospitalized in satisfactory condition.

City Man's Kin Injured in Freak Mine Collision

Floyd Hedricks 53 of Carlsbad injured in a mine collision 1990 feet below the surface near Carlsbad. Four other miners from Carlsbad were treated. Outdoor Christmas Pageant at First Christian Church

Outdoor pageants depicting Christ's birth run Sunday through Wednesday on the lawn of the First Christian Church at 1500 S Main. Cars may view performances in the church parking lot with fourteen actors per show and rotating casts. Committee Named To Seek New County Agent Nominee

Chaves County Commissioners appointed a nine member committee to review New Mexico State University’s nominee for county agricultural agent. The panel includes Charles Waller Clarence Wheeler Bill Bogle Carl Nicholas Phelps White Bill Langenegger Clyde Marley Thornton Boswell and Rosco Fletcher. The group will meet the nominee to discuss appointment. Commissioners also invited Walker AFB to name an ex officio member to the county planning and zoning commission to advise on a proposed ordinance for the Roswell highway area and surrounding boundaries. A zoning approach to future restrictions on development along the highway was urged by the planning commission. The commission approved funds to illuminate the courthouse grounds for Christmas.

Woodburn Named County Agent for Colfax County

Al Woodburn will accept the role of county agent for Colfax County effective January 4, as reported by the Record. The move follows his earlier dismissal from duties at Woodburn’s former post over alleged irregularities in junior livestock certification for the State Fair. Separately, Colfax County offers the job to John J. Chappell for Chaves County.

Petitioners to Boycott Pecos Lodge Hearing
