Hartford police say ex convict Robert Nelson Malm with a history of attacks on girls signed a statement admitting strangling 11 year old Irene Fiederowicz. Detectives re enacted the crime in Irene’s southwest Hartford neighborhood as part of the investigation.

Extra day off for state employees during holidays

Gov Mechem granted state employees December 24 off in addition to Christmas Day and urged extreme caution in travel. The extra day is expected to let workers visit parts of the state while practicing safe driving habits.

McKee Low Bidder Albuquerque

Robert E. McKee of El Paso was apparent low bidder yesterday with a offer of $144,050 on a Corps of Engineers contract for six battalion head quarters buildings at Ft. Bliss. O. K. Mittey and Son, Los Angeles, submitted the low bid of $103,158 for work on Pinon Canyon Dam near Trinidad, Colo.

El Rancho Armed Robbers Sentenced In District Court

Pleas of guilty were entered in most cases heard by District Judge George T Harris with twelve matters on the docket. Larry Don Harper and C A Harris pled guilty to armed robbery linked to the El Rancho Motel holdup. each received five to 10 years with all but 18 months suspended. Billy Raymond Brown pleaded not guilty to grand larceny with bond set at 1,000. West Wilmer and Robinson pled guilty to breaking and entering tied to the Wilson’s window smash and seven revolvers taken on Dec 2. sentences deferred. Elijah Gresham also pled guilty to a robbery involving $30 and coins from Montgomery Service. Continued on page twenty one.

New Mexico cotton and peanut growers approved government quotas with about 1,879 yes to 229 against for cotton across 17 counties and three peanut areas. Peanuts favored quotas 74 to 14, long staple cotton aligned with upland growers 364 to 18, and county results list detailed yes and no tallies.

Woman Sues Over 80 Hour Detention At Kirtland AFB

A Wisconsin woman, Ann E. Mason, sues Col. Henry Hamby and Maj. Richard Collins for 180000 alleging they unlawfully detained her for 80 hours on the Kirtland Air Force Base in September 1952 without charge or cause. She says the confinement caused job loss and emotional distress and left her children without maternal care.

Excited Woman And Three Boys Create Mixup

In Oakland California an hour long search at San Lorenzo was sparked by a woman and three excited boys who claimed a plane had crashed. Coast Guard planes Air Force helicopter boats and sheriff's cars joined the search, but no missing plane was located. The caller and the boys did not provide names or addresses.

Cotton farmers vote overwhelming yes on production controls

Farmers in 20 states turnout about 500000 strong and approve Secretary Benson's cotton and peanut control proposals by about 94 percent. Referendum sets 90 percent parity support next year, with penalties for excess sales and a potential drop to 50 percent parity if controls fail.

Eisenhower Holds Firm on International Atomic Control Plan

President Eisenhower said he will pursue international control of atomic energy even if the Soviet Union rejects his UN proposal for a limited research program. He stated no change to the Atomic Energy Act is intended that would allow sharing scientific processes for weapons. He indicated possible law changes to aid atomic progress but none involving weapon development or scientific processes.

Judge and four others hurt in Pennsylvania Avenue crash

A two car collision at 9 16 last night at Pennsylvania Avenue and Summit Street injured Judge R L Ballard and four others. Edna Redford 48 driver of the Ford suffered a head cut and a broken wrist. Francis Frederick Moore 20 driver of the Studebaker was cut above the left eye and hospitalized. The other injured were Dorothy Rhoades 51 Doris Roberts 58 all taken to St Marys with head chest and hip injuries.

Two Alamogordo Men Die in Wreck

State Police identified victims as Rudolph Silva and Henry G. Clark, both of Alamogordo, in a fatal crash on U S Highway 54 near Alamogordo. The speeding northbound car left the road, struck a culvert, and plunged off the highway. The driver’s identity was not immediately confirmed.
