A Roswell update says promoter Edward Kennedy and a party of five arrive with engineer to grade the new road, meeting contractor Hoag of Malaga. Judge Richardson requests bids, signaling Roswell's chance to secure the project as Oklahoma reports ties and rails contracted for Far West route.
New York prepares for the Haines murder trial at Flushing as 300 talesmen are seated to form the jury. Gen Peter C Haines and Major Haines travel from New York City to attend the proceedings in the supreme court with Justice C Raine presiding.
A U S bulletin cites 30 000 to 35 000 worker deaths and about two million injured in the past year amid calls for stricter factory inspection and safety measures. The report notes European conditions are better and urges practical steps to cut accidents by one third to one half.
The President transmitted a War Department report by Herbert J. Brown and Captain W. G. Baldwin on the August 13–14 1906 Brownsville shooting. It states colored soldiers in Company B led the attack and that most of Companies B C and D knew of the shooting. It calls concealment a grave offense and promises further investigation.
