Roswell City Council discussed changing the zoning ordinance to allow a state licensed medical cannabis distributor to open a center. A final vote to remove restrictions was postponed as staff would gather more application details and ensure compliance with state and federal rules.
Eastern New Mexico University Roswell marked its largest fall graduation with 411 graduates in a convocation at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center. President John Madden noted irregular program lengths contributed to the size as about 160 graduates crossed the stage. Irma Acosta, 22, earned an associate in teacher education and plans to complete her bachelor’s in education in May and teach in Roswell ISD.
U S Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich push to designate about 780 square miles around Las Cruces as the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument. The plan would add eight new wilderness areas under BLM oversight to boost conservation and border regional recreation and economy while addressing enforcement access concerns.
The K Bob's Steakhouse at North Main Street, attached to Best Western Sally Port Inn, opens to brisk business with seats filled on Wednesday and Thursday. The Roswell location offers over 6,000 square feet, 450 dining capacity, 300 catering spaces, and a 125 person staff with 75 per shift.
John Mulcahy was welcomed as the new Executive Director of the Roswell Chaves County Economic Development Corporation. He began Dec. 1 after relocating from Truth or Consequences where he was mayor of the city commission. He aims to grow median income, tax base, and capitalize on air center expansion and youth training to create local jobs.
