Roswell receives the New Mexico Airport of the Year honor from State Aviation Director Tom Baca at a city council meeting. He praises the airport's safety cleanliness and service as the community runs Oswell efficiently.
Roswell resident Steve Elrod gained brief fame when KOB-TV Albuquerque aired a jingle he wrote for the station's Christmas party. He crooned a capella about waking early and watching the news, drawing local laughs after viewers learned of his appearance during Eyewitness News 4 Today. Elrod, an Arkansas transplant, moved to Roswell last year and began performing karaoke locally. He has slimmed from 345 to 265 pounds with support from TV anchors Stucker and Teller. He emailed KOB after a prior segment on diet and exercise and may appear as a guest in January.
Daniel Wolkow rose from a harsh start at Wolkow High School to college entry after overcoming ridicule. He earned a BA in English, pursued an MFA, and entered a PhD program at the University of Texas at Dallas. In Texas he shaped a theater career, directing at Roswell and teaching across three colleges while publishing poetry, stories, and art. He champions comics as mythmaking and urges communal participation in theater and the arts.
A man reported his minivan missing from his driveway on East Hendricks Street between 6 and 7 p.m. A state trooper later found the burned-out vehicle near Bottomless Lakes. A 26-year-old man was arrested on felony weapon charges and tampering with evidence in Deming Street area.
Police responded to a residence on Tierra Berrenda Drive around 10 p.m. Thursday after a woman reported a Molotov cocktail was thrown into her backyard, igniting grass. Neighbors reported similar incidents around the same time.
