The 49,808,624 turnout on November 5 re elected Franklin D. Roosevelt by a 4,914,713 margin. Final AP tallies show Roosevelt with 27,241,939 votes, Willkie 22,327,226, Norman Thomas 116,796, Babson 58,600, Browder 48,789, Aiken 14,861, with Nebraska and Rhode Island still completing canvases before electors meet.
About 35 national guard volunteers are sought by Co A 104th Anti Tank Battalion to reach war strength of 105. Draft eligible men may enlist to serve their time. Uncertainty remains whether deployment will start January 6, with reports of possible delays not yet confirmed. Washington announces revised mobilization dates delaying the 200th coast artillery by three days and the 104th anti tank by three weeks.

The federal security agency announced 64 engineering colleges will offer 250 short courses for defense jobs. Intensive programs aim to fill engineer shortages as designers, inspectors, and supervisors for defense industries and agencies. Congress allocated 9 million dollars to tuition for selected students, with New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts, State College, Texas College of Arts and Industries Kingsville, and University of Texas Austin among approved schools.
In Santa Fe the new Citizens Committee on School Finance heard from R J Mullins that rising enrollments diminishing funds and underpaid teachers threaten current educational standards. He cited ten year figures: attendance up 40 percent from 76 216 to 106 712 while teaching personnel rose only 27 percent and instructional funding up 21.89 percent.

Hagerman’s, has long been tied to Chisum’s era and Pecos Valley railway builder Hagerman.
Mrs. H. O. Bursum Jr. and sons Holm III and Michael returned to their ranch near Socorro today after a week visiting Mrs. Bursum's mother, Mrs. B. F. Puckett, in town.
The forecast warns northern and eastern New Mexico of colder conditions as a storm from northern states continues. Snow flurries are expected in the northwest and southeast tonight and tomorrow, with southwestern New Mexico seeing clearing skies after yesterday's heavy precipitation. Continental Airlines resumes regular Denver to El Paso service from Albuquerque, while Transcontinental and Western Air reports no flights operating.
News reports say about 200 Jewish refugees drown when a motor ship carrying nearly 400 passengers from Bulgaria to Palestine breaks apart in the Marmora sea near Istanbul. Seventeen children among the dead. about 180 survivors rescued and taken to hospitals.
A taxicab driven by Aaron Poteet struck a parked truck in front of the American Cafe on West Second Street near Second and Richardson at about 2 30 this morning. The steering wheel slipping from the driver's hands caused the collision. Minor damage reported.
Five men were killed and several others injured when two cars collided head on in Bourne. The dead include Charles Faria 22 and Joseph Lopez 21 of East Wareham Edward Morrison 28 and Lyman Summers 25 of Falmouth and poorer Hopkins 31 of Brockton. Dying at Tobey hospital were Robert MacDonald 31 and Henry Monteiro 20. Serious condition included Anthony Monteiro 20 and John J Hogan 32 of Brooklyn New York.
Northern and central California faced the coldest spell in almost four years as a polar air mass swept south from Canada. Tehachapis spared southern California while Stockton reached 18 degrees and Merced 19, both near December 1932 lows. Soda Springs logged six above zero with Susanville at eight. Mount Shasta reported similarly frigid conditions. No crop damage reports yet from the agriculture department.
London reports loud air raid sirens as residents seek shelter after a day with no bombs dropped across England from dawn to dusk. The contrast comes after Sheffield endured a large Nazi raid last night.
The Lions Club in Roswell appeals for used toys in good condition to fill their Christmas gift drive for needy children. Over 1100 children await toys, with the drive ending next Wednesday. Lions and city firemen will prepare gifts, tagging toys Monday night at the Malone building on East Second Street.

City officials and merchants promote a town wide Christmas lighting drive with schools joining the effort for a brighter season. The plan calls for simple, inexpensive displays on many homes rather than costly sets, and urges broader participation to make Roswell the brightest southwest city next to Madrid.
The New Mexico Mineral Society will hold a Sunday meeting at 2 PM at the Roswell Museum. Public invited. Chief speaker will be President Needham of the New Mexico School of Mines. A pro film is planned. The group is a non profit devoted to developing New Mexico’s mineral resources.
A peace justice withheld verdicts in the deaths of Burnie Wancreck 20 and Bernice Beyer 25 found in a cabin near Fort Worth Texas. Identification by David Brown and two brothers. carbon monoxide from a stove cited as a possible cause. Mrs Beyer’s sister Mrs Alice Buck expected from Roswell with the funeral pending. Christmas presents found with her belongings.
