Tagliabue Overrules Saints Bounties Appeals
Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue voided player suspensions tied to the Saints bounty program from 2009 to 2011. He found the Saints organization fostered a culture of cash incentives and obstructed the league investigation while clearing Vilma and Smith of certain conduct. The ruling urged balancing off field rhetoric with on field safety and ended a protracted dispute between the NFL and the NFLPA.
